Vice Minister Zhang Zhili and Prak David, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia, co-hosted the First Meeting on China-Cambodia “Fish and Rice Corridor” in Beijing on March 18. The two sides reviewed the progress of China-Cambodia agricultural cooperation, discussed the draft cooperation plan for jointly advancing the “Fish and Rice Corridor”, and exchanged views on key cooperation projects.
Vice Minister Zhang emphasized that building the "Fish and Rice Corridor" is an important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries and serves as an essential guidance for China-Cambodia agricultural cooperation in the new era. Based on the concerns and needs from both sides, China is willing to work with Cambodia, to carry out pragmatic cooperation across six priority areas—crop cultivation, livestock, fisheries, rural livelihood improvement, agricultural modernization, and economic and trade investment—to achieve more substantive outcomes in building “Fish and Rice Corridor”. To that end, Vice Minister Zhang suggested that the two sides should refine and finalize the cooperation plan as soon as possible in preparation for its signing; deliver tangible outcomes from major cooperation projects by strengthened communication and coordination, and targeted guidance; and encourage active participation from market entities in agricultural economic and trade cooperation.
Secretary of State Prak David spoke highly of bilateral cooperation. He affirmed Cambodia’s eagerness to further agricultural economic and trade cooperation and technology exchanges with China, and expedite the implementation of “Fish and Rice Corridor” to deliver shared benefits for both peoples.
